Additional Information

For the Tax Year 2022 only, the Board of Supervisors voted to not charge the $25.00 Vehicle License Fee.

The Personal Property TAX RELIEF ACT of 1997 provides tax relief for vehicles locally registered within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The 2005 General Assembly capped the total car tax relief for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each locality’s share is allocated to provide car tax relief for qualifying vehicles in that locality.  The tax on the first $20,000 of the value of your personal car, motorcycle, and pickup or panel truck under 7,501 pounds qualifies for tax relief.  For qualifying vehicles valued at $1,000 or less, the obligation to pay this tax has been eliminated.  Motor Homes, trailers, farm use and business use vehicles DO NOT qualify for tax relief.

Penalty and Interest

Personal Property Tax bills are due December 5th annually.

Taxes are delinquent the day after the due date.  There is a 10% penalty required by the Virginia State Code for late payment of taxes.  The Treasurer is also required by the Code to collect interest at an annual rate of 10% until payment in full is received.
