Bland County (9:00 AM)
The dedication ceremony starts at the Bland County Veterans’ Memorial in Rocky Gap, 38 ML Thompson Dr., at 9:00 am. There will be a ceremony recognizing veterans featuring an American Legion Gun Salute and bagpipes. Following the ceremony, participants will form a procession and travel via US 52 south to Wytheville (approximately. 40 miles).
Wythe County (11:00 AM)
The dedication event in Wythe County will start at 11:00 am and will honor veterans in a ceremony at the historic Shot Tower, 283 Pauley Flatwoods Rd, Austinville. After the ceremony, the procession will leave for Hillsville, VA via I/77 & U.S. 52 south at 11:30 am (approx. 30 miles).
Carroll County (1:00 PM)
John Carpenter
The procession will arrive in Hillsville shortly after 12:00 pm. The dedication event in Carroll County will start at 1:00 pm at the stage behind Hillsville Town Hall (410 N Main St, Hillsville, VA, 24343).
The event will include recognition of local veterans and remarks by honored guests, including Delegate Jeff Campbell. Music will be provided by local members of Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) . In addition, John Carpenter, Agriculture Teacher at Carroll County Middle School, will perform some of his songs celebrating the service our our veterans.
Lunch will be served, courtesy of a donation from Sandy and Forest Roberts. The Roberts also donated the cost of erecting the memorial signs in Carroll County.
