Local Information

Executive Order 63 of the Governor of Virginia requires that face masks be worn by the public when inside government buildings.  

During the Declared State of Emergency, essential staff are working onsite.  Some offices are open to the public but others have staff available by appointment only.  Please review the listing below or call the office you wish to visit to determine if an appointment is needed.

Public Service Authority - Closed to the Public - Call 276-730-3170 for Assistance - Citizens may continue to make payments online with no added fee, by mail or by using the PSA dropbox located outside of the building.

Treasurer - Open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday - Citizens who do not wish to visit the office may continue to make payments online or use the drop box outside on the front of the building.
Voter Registration - Open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday - Citizens who wish to vote an absentee ballot using "2A Disability or Illness" as a reason for voting before June Republican Primary Election Day on June 23 can apply in person or by mail.  The application for a ballot can be found here.  

* - Note that while offices are closed, law enforcement and emergency service work continues. 

Carroll County Health Department is open.   All visitors will be screened and are required to wear a face mask.  WIC is available by phone daily.  Most services can be completed over the phone.

Brady's Produce
at the SWVA Farmer's Market is open regular hours 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Please read and follow the directions on the notice posted on their door when entering the facility.  Brady's will carry produce out to the car of senior citizens who prefer not to enter the store.  For this service, please call ahead - 276-728-2433.

Carroll County Public Library is closed to the public until further notice.  All library programs have been cancelled at this time.  Patrons can use the book drop box to return books, however there will be no fines charged on books due for return after March 17th.  The library does have a book exchange ongoing with books available at their front door for those who are interested.  Click here for additional information.

Carroll-Grayson-Galax Solid Waste Authority is continuing with normal hours of operation. 

Dollar General Stores in our area now close one hour earlier than regular hours in order to clean and sanitize their stores.  The first hour of business is dedicated to Senior Citizens.  Please contact your community Dollar General store for specific hours as they may vary.

Family Dollar Stores in Hillsville and Cana are closing 2 hours earlier than normal for cleaning purposes.  The first hour of each day (8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m in Hillsville / 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in Cana) are dedicated to Senior Citizens.

Food Lion in Hillsville continues with regular hours of operation (7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.).  Those customers age 60 and over and customers who are immunocompromised can shop 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting Monday, March 30th.  They have instituted updated cleaning procedures.  

Wal-Mart in Galax has new hours from 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.  On Tuesday mornings through April 28th, Galax Wal-Mart is open to Seniors Age 60 and Over from 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.
